Biography

Enzo Bellini working in the furniture studio

My innovative designs are clearly the result of a life filled with adventure and a willingness to explore new opportunities and forms of creativity. In my youth, I sought out the thrill of bungee jumping and quickly turned a hobby into a business to put myself through college. I traveled and worked in Hawaii and Australia and later lived and worked in Woodland Park, Colorado.

I was in my late twenties when I discovered a passion for woodworking. Disenchanted with mass-produced furniture made of cheap materials, I was motivated to create my own furniture. I quickly discovered the singular beauty and personality of each piece of wood that I worked and was hooked. After a period of exploring on my own I received an apprenticeship with the highly regarded studio furniture maker and artist Jeffrey Greene in Pennsylvania. In the following years of intense and challenging work, I learned the professional aspects of furniture making and realized my dream of creating one-of-a-kind furniture which is both sculptural and functional.

I avoid the influence of other woodworkers and strive for originality in each creation. Nature is a big inspiration for the energy in my designs. I prefer to let the harmony of the colors and textures in the wood inspire the design. The combining of exotic woods is a challenge and the finished product a beauty all its own.

Much of the design process is created in my head and later a series of rough sketches emerge. Sometimes the proportions are worked out in models. Prototypes are made for the more complex pieces such as chairs, which assures comfort and allows for the exploration of various construction methods and joinery choices. Screws or purchased fasteners are simply not allowed. Only when I am completely satisfied with a design do I begin building a piece for a client. My work was shown in select galleries and found homes with private collectors and fellow craftspeople.
